1. use Noindex for category pages – I hate content duplication on blogs and most of the category pages shows same content as on posts, so I uses noindex,follow meta tag for them which means search engines will follow the urls and content of the page but will not index it. 2. use Noindex for tags – As similar to categories, you can also use noindex,follow for tags. Personally, I am not a great fan of tags simply because they create lot of duplicate content and is not useful on small blogs. Though if you have a strong blog with lot of content and backlinks, tags may turn out to be a boon as they also starts rankings very high in search engine rankings, for example squidoo tags or technorati tags gets lot of traffic from search engines.

4. Keep the Blog Posts Long – Ok this may sound mundane and not that advanced or even an seo tip but its true, you need to keep your post word count to be of 400+ words and more as it increases the quality factor of article. I myself have been guilty of being impatient and writing very short posts in the past which I am trying to get rid of. Ofcourse by writing long post, I don’t mean writing same content over and over again, same content over and over again and repeating points and just filling the post but you want to make sure that your post contains enough quality content for search engines to make it rank.

5. Use H2, H3, bold, italics tags too – When writing post most of us don’t care of formatting but you should use H2,H3, bold and italics tags too to highlight important content and points. These tags carry seo value and will help your post ranking high in search engines but don’t over do it as it can trigger search engine filters for spammed content.
