It seems after Barack Obama’s Successful web campaign (he is still #4 in most number of twitter followers), In this years Indian Assembly elections, Parties like BJP and Congress are looking to get to 50 million Indian web crowd since the chances are they once, who will make the difference if they go to vote.

Most of the rural crowd most likely have already made their mind for whom they are going to vote (well people in villages keeps on voting for same parts election after elections for reasons which have nothing to do with how good the person is!) but most of the urban crowd and upper middle class either don’t go to vote or often makes it mind in the end.

Now India’s both and only two big parties BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party which means Indian Public Party) and Congress are spending heavily on adwords campaign to reach to these people and to woo them. BJP had started their campaign some 3-4 months back as they are projecting their leader lal Krishna Advani as next Prime Minister of India. A blog is already running on http://lkadvani.in/ (I am not even sure he has the time to check the site, so most likely some other person is maintaining and writing it). Mr LK Advani is talking about Clean Politics and Good Governance where as Congress who jumped on to these adwords and adsense bandwagon little late, is talking about “common man” with some rhyming fancy quotes.

The problem is, most likely these parties don’t know what kind of ROi they are looking for since this is the first time they are doing it, secondly I don’t even think both BJP or congress really cares about ROI. It was suggested that the LK Advani BJP adword/adsense campaign is in the region of few crores which is lot of money when a very big chunk of Indian web crowd is only interested in Orkut and downloading adult content.

Anyway lets wait and see how does these campaigns work for them. India’s General Elections are from April 16th to 11th May and will be conducted in 5 phases.
