I have just reviewed Simple Captcha and Is Human wordpresss plugins which stops automated bot spamming, auto comments and spam comments. Now wordpress has few other plugins too created by various people which do the same thing, with different approach.

One such plugin is WP Hashcash which blocks spam comments, automated spam comments and pingbacks, bots posting random and spam content.

The Plugin needs javascript and is compatible with akismet. You just need to download it, unzip it in plugins directory and enable it.

The plugin has a settings page which you can set to filter spam. HashCash can be downloaded from here, make sure it is compatible with your wordpress version though.
