Best Free Network Analysis Software

Here is the list of Best Free Network Analysis Software.

1. Zaitun Time Series

This software tool offers statistical analysis of data providing an easy way to forecast and model data time series. For this, Zaitun provides a number of graphs that makes the analysis easier.

2. Ethereal

Ethereal is one of the best free and open source network analysis software available currently. Unlike many other Linux based network analysis tools, Ethereal comes with rich user interface for easy use.

Ethereal basically analyze the packet traffic on a network giving the network administrators more insight in to the monitored network.

When it comes to features offered by Ethereal, it can be considered as a complete network analysis tool. The features include;
• Tracing network sessions in addition to tracking packet data
• Consists of a command-line tool for executing in window-less environments such as blade servers. This allows Ethereal to be executed in shell scripts further providing the facility for automating the execution.
• Advanced user interface for differentiating packet display
• Reads dump files created by other commercial network analysis software

3. Netwatch

Netwatch is classified as more sophisticated than Ethereal and it runs in a terminal window. Therefore, GUI users can be easily disappointed. Apart from the user interface, everything else is superb in this tool.

Unlike Ethereal, Netwatch can monitor which host consumes and produces packets. This information is quite critical when it comes to troubleshooting a stressed network.

When switched in to another mode, Netwatch shows the network administrators the ports used by the hosts to communicate with one another. This information can be useful in client-server application environments to see whether the applications are using the expected ports for communications.

Netwatch can alert if it sees potentially harmful protocols running in your network. As an example, if there is a TCP service running which is not supposed to be running in the network, this simply means that someone has deliberately executed a software (such as a networked game). Network administrators can then take corrective action to rectify the issue identified.
