Best Torrent Software

Torrent which means stream or river is one of the most popular way to share files on the net and a quick look at isohunt and thepiratebay should be able to confirm this where a new movie or a popular TV series episode is seeded by as many as 20 to 40 thousand people! But anyway, the chances are you already know all this stuff :) In this article, we are covering the list of Best Torrent Software which can be used to connect to various torrent hubs like thepiratebay or mininova.

1. uTorrent - uTorrent is currently the most popular torrent client in the torrent community (and probably the best torrent software too). Since uTorrent is designed to be small and light weight, it consumes less system resources in the host computer. uTorrent is now available for both Windows and Mac OS X.

2. BitTorrent - BitTorrent is the first torrent software ever written for torrent protocol. BitTorrent is often called the ‘Mainline’ by the developers considering its origins. Users can search and download torrent files using BitTorrent which offers same features as uTorrent.

3. Vuze or Azureus - Vuze (formerly known as Azureus) focuses more on multimedia torrents; especially on HD (High Definition) video. In addition to torrents, Vuze offers channels on music videos, movies, TV shows, video games and many more. I used to use Azureus in the past but it was consuming lot of memory so I had to stop using it. It also had the problem of slow loading. Right now I am using Free Download Manager which has inbuilt torrent support so I have 2 in 1 software which can be used for both download files as well as for torrents.

4. LimeWire - LimeWire is a java based torrent client which offers a built-in search facility in the application. LimeWire offers Pro version for serious torrent downloaders which comes with a price tag. From lately, LimeWire downloads have been known to consist many malware and users were strongly recommended to take precautions. I am currently not aware of the status of limewire torrent software.

5. BitComet - BitComet is a cross protocol torrent, http, and ftp client software that is available for Windows platform. BitComet also provides a FLV player for previewing the download. The advantage is unlike many other torrent software, BitComet does not contain adware.

6. Acquisition - Acquisition is a popular torrent client for Mac OS X. This is based on LimeWire and fully customized to meet Mac OS X’s usability and look-and-feel while fully using Cocoa APIs. Acquisition is priced from $25.

7. ABC - ABC (Yet Another Bittorrent Client) is an open source torrent client based on BitTornado. ABC is written in Python and also includes RSS support. Compared to other torrent clients, ABC includes relatively less but essential features for torrent downloading.

8. BitLord - BitLord is written to work on Windows platform and contains features such as automatic optimization of connections, optimization for maximum download speed, less disk fragmentation, blocking IPs temporary or permanently, connecting users behind firewalls and NATs etc.

9. Transmission - Transmission is one of the popular torrent software for Mac OS X and Linux systems. Transmission is also available for Apple iPhone. Unlike many other torrent clients, Transmission utilizes a minimum amount of system resources and consists of one of the simplest user interfaces.

10. BitLet - Unlike many other torrent clients, BitLet is not a desktop application. BitLet is a Java applet that works on any Java enabled web browser. You can simply go in to the BitLet website and start downloading your torrent.

So this is the list of 10 best torrent software. There are few more torrent client software available but I think this is all what you need. Personally I will stick to top 3 torrent softwares. If you have some suggestions or recommendations to make about these torrent softwares, then please mention them in comments.

One more torrent client worth putting here would be skdownloader. CPU wise, I found it more CPU friendly than Vuze. Also, there is a feature where skdownloader can download the torrent and start downloading using the torrent automatically.
Has all required options and it’s interface is clean and lean. No unwanted info and the window doesn’t fill up the screen as well… :) Although it is available through many file hosting sites, their official link is-
