Blogging in India for Adsense
So today is sunday and I spent couple of hours browsing like 100 blogs run by Indians. I was just trying to get the writing style and what exactly Indian bloggers are talking about in general. Blogging in India is still in very nascent stage and most of the bloggers are 16 to 24 years old male college going student or software engineers.
I am making money on the web for over 4+ years now and after looking so many Indian blogs here are some of my conclusions (which are based on About US and About Me pages which almost all the blog had)
1. Most of the Indian bloggers are 16 to 24 years old and are male. Female bloggers will probably be 2-3% in India. I don’t think there is any Professional female blogger in India, there is Kamla Bhatt and few but they are different kind of bloggers, they are more like journalists who are reaching their audience as bloggers.
2. More then 75% of bloggers are software engineers or software engineering students which is understandable. Almost every blog which I looked was being run by someone who was related to computers in some way. This tells
3. Most of them are blogging for Adsense - There are few blogs in India which are very popular and the owners make really good money, now they also have good readership and following (again mostly techies and engineering student) which has created an underground work force in India where they are writing blogs to earn few hundred dollars, kind of extra pocket money. Few hundred dollars convert really well as one dollar is almost equal to rupees fifty now.
4. I see some cities like Chandigarh and Delhi having very high number of bloggers who are blogging for adsense. I know Chandigarh being hub of SEO activities so probably people see how others are making money and they should also try. Surprisingly I have found barely any bloggers from big cities like Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad. Again since I have only read the about me pages, so its hard to make any conclusion from it.
Its kind of good and bad in both ways, when I was 20 and when I had started as a freelancer, I had not heard about adsense otherwise mwolk would had started in 2004 instead of 2006
I worked ridiculously hard to make $6 writing a perfect php script. After this, I kept on working as a freelancer for few more years. I can still be called a freelancer though I prefers to call it Consultancy now.
These young people who are 20-21 years old and making decent money by blogging is good as engineering is not cheap in India and if you can pay partial fees of yours like I did back in college, it gives a great feeling to you and helps getting your finances right. But I hope these young Intelligent Indian tech bloggers can make their own space instead of blindly copying each other.
I know Philippines and in Romania, a huge grownup population is blindly working online to make money as just like India, they too have good conversion rate. All in all its perfectly fine as in the market of demand and supply, if there is adsense and adsense advertisers, there are going to be publishers and Indian teens being those publishers and bloggers is perfectly fine.
Hope to see more Top Notch Professional Bloggers from India, specially in Non tech field. The problem is, non techies are not that inclined to blog as blogging full time is not easy. Hope to see some quality finance, News, Celeb and health blogs in Indian blogsphere.

Nothing wrong in blogging for adsense money, Everyone is doing, you, me and few thousand others. What we don’t want is a whole generation doing nothing but doing blogging, specially software engineers who may be better of writing better software instead.
