Build sites like Digg
If you are looking to build sites like Digg and for cheap (and by cheap I meant almost free) then you may look to use freely available scripts on the web. Here are some of the more popular scripts which people are using to build digg clones -
1. Pligg - almost 90%+ sites which offers digg like functionality are running on Pligg and the reason for this is its excellent support and huge community. I think Pligg is the only software among all digg clones builder which has good support and an active community. Pligg is more of a CMS rather then some script and it does provide lot of paid addons. For some time now, it is suffering from sever spamming though but otherwise its as good as it can be.
2. Drigg - Drigg is drupal based plugin using which you can build a digg like site by offering users to up/down news stories. Being based on drupal means your digg like site can be extended to something way more then a voting site.
3. Blinkk - Blinkk is a hybrid of digg and delicious.com where users can submit news, audio video content, comment on the submitted items, tag them.
4. DiggAll - DiggAll is just like digg but instead of users voting deciding the news items, here the editor decide which news items should make it to front page. Its a good option for moderated sites.
5. NewsKicks - newskicks is another digg like site based on drupal with close resemblance to reddit in terms of voting.
6. OpenDigg Framework - I haven’t seen or heard much about opendiggframework and couldn’t found much on the net too, so you can install it and see it yourself how good it is.
As said, since 90% of the sites run on Pligg, there aren’t too many options left but still I feels drigg is good as well as NewsKicks. You can download all these projects and see it yourself to decide which suits your needs.

I owns 5 sites on pligg and can safely say its a really good platform albeit little broken. there are instances where you have to sit and start debugging and hacking yourself. Though it has enough good support that most of the questions can be found in the forum itself or you can find a freelancer to do the job for some money.
