I had built my first proxy website when I was in college just for fun and to see whether I can bypass college firewall settings or not. it was built using phpproxy (it is dead now unfortunately, both the script and my site)

Anyway since MWolk has tons of web proxies and I get daily 5 mails from proxy webmasters asking me all sort of questions and requests, I felt to make a post about this proxy business. This is for beginners who are wondering what exactly are these proxies and not for people are who pro’s.

Most of the proxy websites run on two scripts, zelune or glype, few other script being surrogafier, cgiproxy and PHPProxy. Now here are some of the rules of proxy business (i.e. when you are a proxy webmaster)

1. Proxies have very small life as they soon starts to getting banned from colleges and schools, so webmasters tries to get very fast traction for site.
2. Build lot of websites in one go. It takes only few minutes to set up a proxy website, so buy 10 .info domains for $20 and put 10 sites in couple of hours.
3. use adsense on the front page but do not use it on proxy page or else your account will get banned since adsense policies do not allow adsense to be used on proxified pages.
4. You will get tons of traffic from china, iran and gulf countries where people heavily uses proxies due to blockage of lot of websites.

So in short, proxy webmasters build lot of websites and try to get lo get lot of traffic before the site gets too big (too huge sites eats lot of bandwidth and don’t make lot of money), then close the sites and move on to new websites.
