How to Clean Camera

We have covered plenty of articles on cameras, so here is one more on How to Clean Camera.

  • First of all set your camera to low aperture (in case of SLR) else you can take a photo of a clean white paper or white cloth.
  • Now download the view the image on your computer in full resolution.
  • Increase the contrast of the photo and check is there any spot or patch on your photo.
  • If you can see such spot then it’s time to clean your camera.

Collect the items listed below to clean your camera.

1. Air blower
2. Lens cleaning fluid
3. Soft microfiber cloth
4. Sensor cleaning brush

Clean Camera Lens

  • If you have SLR camera then remove the lens and blow air from the blower to wipe out all dust and other particles. For non-SLR camera, you can blow the air directly.
  • Now use few drops of good lens cleaning fluid on a soft microfiber cloth and wipe on the lens. Don’t use pressure on lens while cleaning and never drop the cleaning liquid directly on the lens as it may damage your lens.
  • Next, dry out the lens using another fresh microfiber cloth.

Cleaning the Sensor

  • For SLR camera cleaning of sensor is essential. Just remove your lens and you will get the sensor. Basically, what we are going to clean in not the direct sensor, but the sensor filter.
  • Blow air (never use compressed air) on the sensor and keep your camera in downward position so that all dust will drop outside.
  • Now, wipe the sensor gently with special sensor cleaning brush.

Cleaning camera body

  • Cleaning the camera body is the easiest part. First wipe out all dust with blower or simple cotton cloth.
  • Now use a clean cotton cloth and wet with few drops of water or alcohol.
  • Next rub the wet cloth around the whole body of your camera.
  • Finally dry the body with a dry cloth.

Cleaning LCD panel

  • In general LCD panels on camera are protected with thin plastic cover. So you can clean this with microfiber cloth with just 1-2 drop of alcohol or lens cleaning liquid.
  • Never drop any cleaning alcohol directly on the LCD panel.
