I take regular backup of all my laptop content and important financial data in DVD on every saturday, now the problem with DVDs are that, after a year if you try to play it, it may not work, because of dirt and scratches it got over time and this can mean you losing your content! Well most of the time, you can play a DVD by cleaning it, Here is a tutorial on How to Clean DVD.

• In order to clean your DVD player, first of all unplug all connecting cables and place it on a suitable place like a table.

• Now you need to clean the outside area of your DVD player like the vents of the cooling fans etc. If you get excessive dust on the cooling fan then never user any blower as the dust will spread into the internal area of the player. Better, try to remove the cover of the DVD player and then de-touch the fans carefully. Now you can use the blower on fans. Never open the DVD cover if your player is under warranty as in many cases it will Void the Warranty.
• Now open the DVD drawer, few players allow to open it without power. If your player doesn’t have this feature, then just power it up once and open the drawer and unplug the power. You can wipe this first and then use a cotton cloth to rub the drawer with few drops of alcohol.
• Next you can use any good cleaning disc and play it to clean the lens. You can repeat playing the cleaning disc for 2-3 times if you think.
• Now if your warranty period expired then you can uncover the player for better internal cleaning. Remove the all screws attached to the cover and pull it outside.
• After removing the cover, you can see the inside of your player and the areas covered with dust. Use soft cotton cloth with a few drops of alcohol to remove those.
• To wipe out free moving dusts inside, you can move the player upwards and downwards and shack it by hand.
• Do not use alcohol to clean the circuit board area, only use dry cloth.
• Now carefully clean the rubber belt and gears with cloth and few drops of alcohol.
• Also you can clean the lens manually with tint free and soft microfiber cloth.
• When you are done, just put the cover on and screw it.
