CMOS Checksum Error
A checksum error is something as an error detecting code which is computerized. It’s there to protect the BIOS setting which is stored in the CMOS memory. Whenever the system is booted this code number is generated again and its check against the stored value. If they are not similar so that means they do not matched and an error message will come up which will tell you that the CMOS memory contents are corrupted so it wants you to change the settings which have gone wrong.
BIOS react in different manner to generate this kind of error. As this can lead to many other errors too, some can just warn the user and then continue with what was in the CMOS settings. Others can assume that the settings in CMOS were corrupted so they will load default values which are stored in BIOS chip, this is usually done for safety reasons. The error message will tell you before what it’s going to do next. So checking the CMOS checksum errors is not a big problem, just follow the steps of the errors you are getting. As there can be different kind of errors coming up but the main concept which lies behind is almost the same.
You can diagnose it rather easily, however. A common problem which may cause the checksum error in CMOS is just that the battery that is going weak and losing power. Another main cause which can affect CMOS settings are viruses, so you should be weary of that possibility as well. Moreover problems can be in Motherboard which can affect the values that are stored within.
Different error may lead to different solutions. The recommended method is that first you make sure that all the BIOS setting are correct in the system, which is done by rebooting the system then opening the BIOS setup, thoroughly check the all settings and values.
But the problem can be found in BIOS settings in the CMOS memory which may have become damaged. The data that is stored in CMOS memory which controls the BIOS settings may have become corrupted. This is seen in the error message or you can say a warning message which comes up when pc is re-booted, since the CMOS has a checksum value that is used to allow the BIOS to detect, it happens when the settings has gone disturbed or corrupted. Again this is the battery problem. The easiest method is to use the backup copy of your CMOS settings and restore them to the correct values.
