Usually computer dedicated audio systems can’t match the performances of home audio systems, neither in fidelity, neither in power. A high fidelity home audio system will pull out everything but a small amount of money from your wallet so you will want to use it to its full potential. The good thing is that you can connect any audio output to it. The only things you need are some proper cables.

I have to warn you that there is a difference between the signal amplifiers in a home audio system and a power amplifier. If you connect your pc to a power amplifier without using a mixer between you will eventually destroy your sound card.

How to send your computer audio signal to your home audio system signal it’s done through one or more cables, depending on its type: stereo or surround. What you will need is one or more 3.5 mm jack to stereo RCA. You can see below how it looks.

Buy only high quality cables or your home audio system will be no good than a computer system, the signal will get distorted. Plug the stereo jack into the green audio out in your computer and the RCA plugs into the audio system. If you’re going with a surround system you have to do the step above with multiple cables, just check your audio card’s manual to know how to plug the cables in your computer.

Besides the high quality audio home system and high quality cables you won’t do much with the onboard audio card. Buy a good one, your local computer store surely has a few.
