Convert AVI to DVD
If your DVD player doesn’t know how to read AVI files or you want to send that vacation movies to your mother you will need to convert avi to DVD. I will show you how to do that.
Avi2DVD is a freeware program that converts multiple video formats (avi, ogm, mkv, wmv) into DVD. Download and install it.
1. Put the movie and the subtitle in the same folder. If you have a multiple part movie add CD1, CD2 etc at the end of the file names. Also, make sure the subtitles have the same name as the movie files.
2. Open Avi2DVD and press the “Load” button. Browse your way to the movie folder, select one video file and the program will add the others if there are more. Choose the desired audio stream. Most likely you will find only one but give it a check anyway. Check the aspect ratio to be the right one. If you get horizontal lines when you play the movie check the “Deinterlace” box. You have a few other useful options like “Shutdown when done”

3. Choose the DVD format, the disk size (DVD or DVD-9) and the number of disks. Again, check the aspect ratio to be the correct one. Choose the bitrate according to the original one. Avi2DVD will turn the sound to AC3 format for increased compatibility. You can also convert PAL to NTSC and the other way around. Select “Make ISO” and set the name how you want it to be. The program can automatically create chapters at a given period of time.
4. Choose the encoder you wish to use. There are 5 open source encoders. If you do this conversion often try them all and see which one is best for you. Regarding the Profile option go with best although it will take the longest to encode the movie.
5. Add the subtitles
6. Create the DVD menu
7. Hit the “Add Job” button and then “Go”. Wait for the process to finish, burn the ISO and get some popcorn!
