Convert FLAC to mp3
FLAC files are a great way of listening to high quality music because it’s a lossless format. Why would you want to turn it to mp3? Because it eats up lots of hard drive space and it’s not compatible with players such as portable mp3 players or your car stereo.
The conversion process is simple, quick and painless. You will need only a few pieces of software:
- any archive extractor, such as WinZIP or WinRAR;
- Lame MP3 Encoder which provides the mp3 coding
- Foobar 2000 which reads the FLAC file and sends the data to the Lame MP3 Encoder.
Install the Foobar 2000. It’s a very simple operation, only a matter of clicking a few Nexts and a Finish. Regarding Lame MP3 Encoder you have to extract the archive somewhere in a folder on the hard drive.

1. Open Foobar 2000. Open the files you wish to convert either by going to File > Open Files ar by drag and dropping the FLAC files on the Foobar 2000 window.

2. Select one or multiple files from the list, right click > Convert > Convert to…
3. You will get a new window with some settings. For the Encoding Preset choose MP3 (LAME) from the list.
Click the little button with three little dots next to the drop down list to set the quality of the encoded files. Move the slider left to make the file smaller and lose more quality or right for bigger size and quality.
When you click the “OK” button you will get a browsing dialog. Go to the folder where you extracted the Lame MP3Encoder earlier, select lame.exe and click “Open”.
3. The encoding process will begin. Sit back and relax, this won’t take long enough for you to get bored.
