In general most of the songs purchased directly from iTunes online shop are protected with DRM. This protection lets you to play those tunes or songs only on specific devices like iPod, iPhone and computers. These DRM protected files can not be played on general media players and random computers. So, naturally you always want to convert these files in most popular audio format MP3. So, in order to convert iTunes to MP3, first of all you need to find whether it’s DRM protected or not.

If the specific iTune you like to convert in MP3 is not DRM protected then you can go with following steps –

• iTunes can used to convert protected files in MP3 format.
• Open iTunes application and go to Edit >> Preferences >> Advanced >> Importing. Here set the “Import Settings” as MP3 Encoder and save the settings.
• Now go to the iTunes library and right click on any file you want to convert and select “Convert Selection to MP3”.
• In case you file is not protected then it will convert in MP3 format. For protected file, you will get a message saying protected tracks cannot be converted to other formats.

If the specific track is protected then follow the steps below –

• Select the all tracks you want to convert and make sure it’s around the capacity of an audio CD.
• Now burn those iTunes in Audio CD format. You can use CD/RW as well if you need many tracks.
• When the audio CD is ready then, open iTunes and access this audio CD and add media files to library.
• Now, just right click on the tracks and choose “Convert Selection to MP3” and get all protected iTunes in MP3 format.
• You can also use Windows Media Player 10 to convert this audio CD to MP3 by choosing the RIP option.
