CPU Temperature

Monitoring your computer’s CPU temperature is very important is making sure that it doesn’t overheat and damage critical components within the computer’s inner hardware.

The CPU temperature should be able to be monitored via a heat reading device built into your motherboard. The utility probably came with your motherboard, but if you can’t seem to lcate it, there are other ways to tell your CPU’s temperature.Try downloading a program called Core Temp. This little piece of software, depending on if it supports your processor, will display tons of useful information on what’s going on inside of your computer. Above all, it displays what the current temperature is in your computer. A master list of the processors that Core Temp supports can be found here.

Is keeping a low CPU temperature important?

Keeping the temperature of your internal CPU low can save you from a handful of misfortune happenings, namely the various pieces of hardware in your computer from overheating and melting down.Long story short, yes, keeping a lower CPU temperature is imperative to the operation of the computer. This is even more important with laptops, as the space is even more confined than it is with a regular desktop PC.

Why is my computer so hot?

If you have found that your computer is getting too hot, some of the causes may be that your computer airflow is being blocked off by large amounts of dust. Dust collecting on the heat sink and fan(s) of your computer may cause serious airflow restrictions and heat build-up. A simple solution is take your computer apart every once and a while (don’t wait 2 years in between cleanings) and clean out all of the dust from the hardware and fans. You’d be surprised how much dust can gather in such short amounts of time. Also make sure that there is a reasonable amount of room between the computer case and any enclosures it may be in, as it needs to able to circulate the air.

Methods of cooling

Though fans are the most common method in cooling one’s PC, another method that may be considered is liquid cooling. There are pre-built computer cases available in case you don’t want to do it yourself, but essentially all that’s involved is submersing the computer’s hardware in a thermally conductive liquid. The liquid used should be dielectric, which means that it is nonconducting so much as to make sure there isn’t any electromagnetic interference. Websites like Xoxide.com and FrozenCPU.com provide pre-built liquid or water cooled cases that range from about $350.00 to $1,000 dollars.
