Cuil Failure ?
Cuil was launched in the summer of 2008 so its almost one year of the huge PR exercise and media coverage Cuill had got. Everyone was talking about there 120 billion pages indexed which is three times bigger than google, how it is started with google’s ex-employees and how weird the name is and how to pronounce it so after almost a year, it doesn’t look like Cuill has gone very far.
As a search engine, I don’t see its results anyway closer to Google and infact I find yahoo and msn’s results way better then Cuil. I am not very comfortable with the presentation of Cuil either, may be they are offering something really good which is not required and is unwanted.
As a Product and Service, I have completely stopped seeing it being mentioned anywhere now. I have checked few webmaster forums to find what people are talking about it and I don’t think there are any who can claim to get any kind of traffic from Cuil. Infact I know few who have blocked indexing there sites because it was very resource intensive and hitting web server hard.
So with nothing going Cuil’s way, can it be termed as Cuill failure ? I don’t think that the time has come to close the shop and most likely Cuill still might be having some VC funding cash left, so they can go on for some time but they have already done most of the things which they had to offered and it didn’t clicked, so may be they need to go back to the drawing board, stop doing cool stuff and just offer search results and that too of highly relevant and contextual.
The chances are the founding team might still be working on exact same thing and it may again get soft launch in coming weeks but for the time being, Cuill will be called as failure as it failed to deliver what it was meant to be.

Cuill failed because they marketed it badly, who the hell starts promoting as Google killer when no one uses it ? if I had been a Cuill founder, I would had fired all those who handled the marketing of it
