Dell Laptop Reboot due to Heating

If you own a Dell laptop and if you like me work for continuous 14+ hours on laptop, I am sure you must have faced this problem of Dell laptops getting rebooted due to excessive heating. This a very serious problem, something which people often complain about dell laptops.

I have talked to Dell support about this to know what can be done as I am already in an AC room with room temperature of about 26 C. So on the basis of those conversations and from my knowledge of 7 years using computers, here are some tips to prevent your dell laptop getting rebooted

1. This is an easy one, switch off the laptop for 10 mins every 5-6 hours, it can’t be that difficult, when you are going for lunch or for tea, just shut down the laptop.

2. Mostly the heating problem occurs because of poor ventilation in laptop, so its a good idea to clean the bottom of it once, clean all the dirt etc but do not open the lid on your own as it may void the warranty of laptop.

3. You also want to use a heating pad, they are very cheap and absorbs heat, though not very effective but it should help to reduce the heating problem somewhat.

I had this problem with my 1+yr old Dell Studio 15. But the Service guy fixed this by replacing the fan & heatsink. Now there is no heating at all.

@Sandeep - very nice, I will wait for few weeks to see if this happens again and then will ask them to replace the fan and sink
