Dog Constipation

Constipation is one of the most common problems that many dogs frequently suffer from, and this is the reason which makes them acutely ill, if untreated. This problem can be highly experienced by any dog regardless of his/her breed or age. Constipation can lead to several health-related problems among dogs, since they bear severe pain which makes them uncomfortable and lazy. An assortment of dogs develop the problem of constipation due to inadequate intake of fiber, proteins, liquids and other food items like bread, sugar, rice etc. If your dog is maintaining an unhealthy diet and does not exercise regularly, he/she may end up with constipation.

Symptoms of dog constipation

There are various signs and symptoms of a constipated dog that a pet owner should be aware of:

* When your dog starts to spend relatively more time in bathroom than usual, or suffer from severe pain, loss in their appetite, vomiting, lethargy, laziness, dehydration and stress are some of the symptoms that most of the dogs show when they are suffering from constipation.
* Change in weather conditions or spending much time outside the house without much intake of water can also lead to constipation among dogs.

Tips & Suggestions for Dog Constipation

By considering the above steps, it becomes easy for a dog owner to identify that the pet is suffering from constipation. Therefore it is suggested to take your pet for an immediate check up to the veterinarian. Another thing to take care of is that your pet should defecate at least once in 2 to 3 days with soft feces. Sometimes people does not take these symptoms seriously that in turn leads to Mega colon which is a health related problem, indicates frequent constipation in dogs.

Cure & Prevention for Dog Constipation

The problem of Constipation can be easily cured and prevented by simply following certain steps. The steps include:

* The foremost thing to prevent dog constipation is changing the diet of the dog according to their weight and age.
* Try to feed the dog with diet rich in fiber and loads of water throughout summers.
* Feed your dog with special food, manufactured solely for the pets.
* Regular exercise is another method to prevent dog constipation, since it assists the pets moving their bowel.
* Another treatment for dog constipation is to encourage the dog passing the stool by taking your dogs out frequently.

If the above treatments and preventive measures are not effective, then it is suggested to consult the veterinarian to partially or fully remove the colon through surgery.
