This tip is for people who browse Indian matrimonial websites shaadi.com and bharatmatrimony.com and want to download pictures of prospective members for personal references (like showing it to parents/siblings etc).

Both the sites have disabled right click so you can download any profile image which makes total sense but still if you need the image, here are 2 simple ways to get the pictures.

1. The first one is very obvious, open the image and hit “Print Screen” button of your keyboard (it is above backspace button), and paste it in MS paint (ctrl+V). You can paste the image in other image programs like irfanview where you can crop and resize the image too.

2. Another trick is to download the image directly from the source code, open the image and click ctrl+U (for firefox) or click on view -> source in Internet explorer and see the source code. Use the search (ctrl+F) to search for “transparent url” text, and just after there will be a image url starting with “http://img.shaadi.com/photos_large” or “http://imgs.marathimatrimony.com/photos/” , you can copy that url and paste in address bar of your browser, it will open the raw image which you can right click on and download it. Please note that the images are copyrighted and you do not have any kind of ownership and never use the images or distribute them for any purpose.

There are 2 more tips to download protected images by spacer images, which though do not work for the above 2 sites, but can and should work for others.

3. Use ad block - firefox has an addon adblock which has been downloaded 83 million times! what you can do is, you can insert the url of the spacer in it and in firefox you will be able to see the hidden original image. For example, to download flickr images which are protected by spacer, put “http://l.yimg.com/g/images/spaceball.gif” in the my adblocking rules and you will be able to download flickr images.

4. Use imagegrabber firefox addon - firefox has an addon which works really well for downloading protected images by spacer.gif, you can downloaded imagegrabber. For some reason it didn’t worked for me, may be because I am using firefox 3.6
