DSL Splitter
A DSL splitter is used for helping with any inference problems you may be having on a line. DSL splitters help to filter out any low frequency signals that may exist on a telephone line from high-frequency ASDL lines. These are quite similar to how a DSL filter works. Unlike a DSL filter, DSL splitters require a specialist to come in and split the telephone line itself into 2 separate lines. With a DSL filter, you just install the device directly into the phone socket on the wall.
DSL splitters are installed on every line that runs into a home. After each new splitters is successfully installed, a new phone point is wired in. This point is used exclusively for the ADSL modem. The splitter that is installed in the telephone line is also known as a central splitter.
DSL splitters have two different filters which are uses two different filters in separating the two signals that are simultaneously transmitted in the wire. It not only uses a low pass filter for the purpose of preventing any interference that may be caused by ADSL signals. ADSL signals operate at a much higher frequency tan what the telephone signals do.
The other filter that is applied is a high pass filte which is used to guard against the low frequency telephone signals from the ADSL side of the line. These telephone signals are sometimes known as POTS, which stands for Plain Old Telephone Service. The DSL provider provides the installation of the central splitter, as this requires the knowledge of a technician in order to be installed properly. This central splitter is installed before the first connection to a telephone point is made.
Since the initial invention and use of DSL splitters, there has since been newer technologies invented in order to have DSL without the splitters, otherwise known as splitterless DSL. How this works is simple: instead of having the telephone line split in the vicinity of your own home, the line is split way before it gets to your house in the companies offices.
Essentially, the DSL provider splits the signal before it even gets to your house. Since the creation of this, splitterless DSL has become a standard for all DSL users in the past few years. However, the home users still must install a DSL filter o the phone line sockets in order to cut out some of the interference with the phone and DSL modem. The installation of a DSL filter is much simpler, though, and can be easily done by yourself.
