EM64T
Extended Memory 64 Technology is referred to as the EM64T. It is now known as x64, or more commonly as we call it Intel 64. Extended Memory 64 Technology is a extensions or super set consisting of 64-bits processed by the main machine of the computer called the central processing unit (CPU). This technology is commonly used in many well reputed brands that we know of today. Processors like Pentium D, Celeron D, Pentium 4, Core 2 processors, Pentium Dual-Core and Xeon consist of the EM64T.
The Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T) is originally given the codename of Yamhill. The EM64T was announced for the first time in the year 2004. This was announced by the honorable chairman of the Intel Company at that time named Mr. Craig Barrett. He explained about this new technology and told the people how it was underway. Since the beginning of this technology, this EM64T has been given a lot of different names. It has had a lot of names changed due to the fact that in the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) it was given the name CT. Later it was changed from CT to IT-32e. At last, in the year 2004 the final official name was decided by the company and it was finally referred to as the EM64T and this was the name used during its launch. But later in the year 2006, due to the rivalry of the Pentium Company, they decided to change its name once again. This time they changed it from EM64T to Intel 64. Since that time it has not had any name changes or revisions. Perhaps they have finally decided to stick with a name, unless some foreboding external force causes them to yet switch it up yet again.
As far as Intel technologies are concerned, the very first processor to have adopted their Intel 64 was Nocona (codename for what we know as Xeon.). Having known the fact that Nocona Xeon was built using the Pentium 4, the Pentium 4 processor also gives support to the technology of Intel 64. However, this was not the situation in the initial stages of the Prescott design but later they were able to have it get support from the processor. The Extended Memory 64 Technology was officially for to be used in those of desktop processors in the Prescott-2m. This was a revision of the older version of the Prescott design that was built earlier. Intel launched its first mobile processor support by Intel 64 in the July of 2006.
