Error Loading Operating System
You may get this error if there was a problem somewhere in the computer’s process of loading the operating system. The Error Loading Operating System message is native to the Windows operating systems, so if you are running Mac or Linux, you probably won’t be getting this message.
Error Loading Operating System occurs when there is something wrong with the way the BIOS is communicating with the hard drive. Usually it’s because the BIOS isn’t capable of handling the capacity of the hard drive that it is trying to communicate with. This may be because of the way it was built, or it may have even malfunctioned. If you got this message all of a sudden after having successfully booted into Windows in the past, then you can probably pass it off as a malfunctioning BIOS. There are a couple of methods in attempting to resolve this error, however. Let us go through the motions!
Note: If you are experience with computers, then you can proceed. If you aren’t quite sure about all that technical stuff, however, then you’re best bet would be to just take it somewhere to get checked out.
The first thing you can try out is updating the computer’s BIOS. Cracking out the old instruction manual and reading up on how to do so is always a good step in this procedure. A manual should have come with your motherboard, and if you can’t seem to find one, then try calling the makers of your store-bought computer.
Once you have made sure that your BIOS is at it’s most current version (or updated it), be sure to check out some of the various pieces of information on your BIOS, such as to make sure that the hard drive is interfacing correctly with it. You can try opening up your BIOS when the computer is starting (usually by hitting F2 (boot options) or F12 (boot setup) when you see the first splash screen). From there going in and checking to see if your hard dive is being detected is a good way or troubleshooting.
Other than your BIOS, the hard drive could be going bad, so if you think this may be the case, make sure to backup all of your files and information immediately before the situation worsens. You’d then have to go out and buy a new hard drive. As for backing up the information, there are several tools available, so try consulting a search engine for advice.
