Alcohol and its prey have existed in every stage of history; even famous alcoholics have earned reputation or rather dubious distinction of being ruled by alcohol habits. Do not consider it as a pride or do not try and follow them, rather try to get some motivation from them as to how they were able to fight their habits and overcame their mind with their will power.  There are many examples of famous alcoholics from different walks of life like writers, sports person, politicians and business tycoons who have suffered a lot due to this while many have taken rehabilitation to fight the cause. Following are some famous alcoholics who have been known for their habit:

a)    Ulysses S. Grant: He was the 18th president of USA, with drinking habits bought forth by loneliness and boredom. His habits affected his political career and he got relived from military duties in 1854. He died shortly after his reign due to throat infection and cancer.

b)    Edgar Allen Poe: His drinking habits are held responsible for his grim career as he published literature that was highly praised. He died at an early age of 40 on the streets and was declared dead in hospital.

c)    John Daly: The famous PGA golfer got addicted to alcohol at an early age and has seen lots of fluctuations in life due to this. Finally he got arrested for his ill behavior and was suspended from PGA, while he failed in his personal life and got divorced from his wife.

d)    Stephen King: Very famous writer, suffering from drinking habits and many other additions. He lost all glory and reputation due to this and has been a sober since then.

As the list grows, there are many more in queue with many peculiar history and reputation as famous alcoholics. Many other celebrities have entered rehab programs for drugs or alcohol. Some of them are Betty Ford, Mel Gibson, Johnny Cash, John Daly, Rush Limbaugh, George C. Scott, Elizabeth Taylor, Joe Namath, Nicole Richie, Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell, Elton John, and Dick Cheney. Cheers to them for their efforts; and setting an example for us to follow.
