Find and Remove Duplicate Files

It’s quite common problem that often duplicate files lies on our computer taking valuable space without us knowing it. And it’s really difficult or you can say quite impossible to sort those out and delete all duplicate files manually. Now one tiny utility tool Double Killer can be really helpful here which finds and remove all duplicate files on the computer. Basically Double Killer searches the entire hard disk for duplicate files, compare the file sizes and meta information and after showing you the list of duplicate files, delete the copied once keeping the original.

Double Killer checks for the CRC 32 value of each single file make it sure that the file is an exact replica before removing it. So, you can stay confident with Double Killer as it takes extreme care before removing a file. Infact CRC 32 values for a file stand like finger print which can’t be same on different files.

On the Double Killer window, you’ll get an option tab where you can set some criteria like …

[ ] name are identical AND
[ ] sizes are identical AND
[ ] dates are identical AND
[ ] CRC32 checksums are identical

Now, you can choose all 4 options and any of those while searching for a duplicate file. To be 100% sure, I’ll always suggest you to go with the 4th option, CRC 32 checksums cause this is the main point to identify duplicate files. Also to keep your PC safe from accidental delete of any system files such as DLL, SYS, INF etc just by inserting those on the section “exclude files matching these masks”.

One very important point, if Double Killer gives CRC values of some files as ‘0000000’ means the application is unable to retrieve the CRC value correctly. In such situations, I’ll suggest you to compare those files manually.

You can download Double Killer here and Detect and Remove all Duplicate Files.

I recommend you to try Exact Duplicate Finder which detects duplicate files using byte-by-byte comparison, removes or moves them into custom folders.
