How to find DNS Server
Domain Name System or DNS is a key to network services. All kinds of servers, including most ISP has their own DNS servers. Here are some methods to find DNS server of your ISP.
Windows Vista/ XP/NT/2003 – If you are using Windows Vista, XP or other NT versions then you can follow simple steps below.
- Go to Start Menu -> Run
- Type “cmd” and press enter to open the command prompt window.
- Now type “ipconfig /all” [without quotes]
That’s all; you will get the address of your DNS server as follows.

On the other hand, if you are using preferred DNS servers like Open DNS, then you will get it simply in this way …
- Go to Start Menu > Settings > Network connections
- Now double click to open Local Area Connection settings
- Click on the Properties button
- Here scroll down the properties option and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
- Here you will get the preferred DNS servers if you have any

Linux/ BSD/ Unix system – If you are on Linux, BSD or Unix systems then to find your DNS server follow the steps below.
- Open the Command Shell
- Type “$ cat /etc/resolv.conf” [without quotes]
