How to find Gateway
In the previous article I had talked about how you can find DNS server of yours, now in this article I will be talking how to find gateway of your network.
First of all, What is gateway ? Gateway is a network point or address which acts like and entrance to another network. For Internet Servers, a node or ending point can be a Gateway or a host which is also known as end point. You can find your Gateway address in very simple steps as follows.
Windows 2000, XP and Vista – For these versions of windows, just go to Start Menu -> Run and type “cmd” to open Command Prompt. On the Command Prompt window just type “ipconfig” (without quotes) and hit enter to retrieve the Gateway Address.

For past versions of Windows like Windows 98 or ME you can use winipcfg to get your gateway address with other information like Adapter Address, IP Address, Subnet Mask in GUI format. winipcfg also has support for higher version of Windows. You can open it by going Start Menu -> Run and typing “winipcfg” if already installed on your system.

Also you can retrieve the default Gateway information from the LAN Properties. Go to Start Menu -> Settings -> Network Connections and open Local Area Connection. Now simply click the support tab and you will get the Gateway information as follows.
