Finding Your MAC Address When Using Windows Operating Systems

Windows NT

So if you have Windows NT running on the personal computer, finding the MAC address of your personal computer can be quite easy. While having TCP/IP installed in your personal computer, run the command (ipconfig/all) in the command prompt window. This command will show the MAC address of your personal computer.

Windows 2000 and Windows XP

Open command prompt window in your personal computer by clicking Start menu, then Run. Now type cmd and press OK or ‘enter’ from keyboard. Now type the command (ipconfig/all) in command prompt window. Note down the 12 digit hexadecimal physical address which is the MAC address.

MAC OSX

If you have MAC OSX personal computer, go to system preferences. Now select network and then you have to choose interface. Do not forget to select the MAC Address’ interface which you are attempting to trace. This can be done by simply going to show menu and then going to drop-down menu. For the users finding built-in Network Interface Card’s MAC Address, simply just choose Ethernet Tab and then read MAC Address labeled by the keywords “Ethernet ID”.

Note: if you are having a wireless Network Interface Card, just follow the same steps, and select “Air Card” rather selecting Ethernet Card. Now the MAC Address would rather be labeled by the keywords “Air Card ID”.

Finding Your MAC Address on a Linux OS

On most of the Linux systems, the Network Interface Card is known as eth0. For finding out the MAC Address of these devices, first of all, you have to become the root user by using the command su. Then type command ifconfig -a. 12 digit hexadecimal Physical address labeled by the keywords “HWaddr” should be seen on screen.
