How to Find Printer IP
Back in college days, when I had to use shared printer connected to other labs, finding the network printer IP was the toughest thing specially if no one was around. So here is an article on how to find Printer IP connected to your network.
Now, local area networking is almost everywhere and even at home we are on a LAN with our desktop and laptop for various purposes like internet sharing, file and printer sharing, backup etc. But, suddenly if the LAN printer stops working then it’s quite important to know the printer IP to detect and restore it.
Finding the IP of a network printer is not a big deal and you can do it yourself by following the steps below …
1. If your printer comes with inbuilt ethernet port (general in Laser printers) then mostly it comes with an option to display the IP address. Additionally, you can print a test page from the properties section of your printer to get the IP address.
2. Now, if your printer doesn’t have inbuilt ethernet option or the first option doesn’t works for you then you can go Start Menu -> Settings -> Printers and Faxes here right click on your printer and go to the properties page. Now go to the Ports tab and you will get the TCP/ IP column here (ofcourse if your printer is already shared) where you will get the IP of your printer.
3. On the other hand, if your network/ shared printer using DHCP then you can connect it with your router to get the IP address of the printer from the router’s DHCP status page. This option is only applicable if your printer comes with ethernet port.
4. Also you can get your printer IP by typing “netstat –r” or “netstat” on the Command Prompt. This commands display all open network routes with the status.
