There are quite a few different free fax software out there, and I have collected a list of a few of them for you. Hopefully this helps you review your options a little better.

ezFax

This software “provides an Email gateway to Fax gateway for Win32 Fax”. You can send an email by Fax by entering the phone number in the “To” section of the email. You can also fax emails from MS Office to Acrobat Reader and so forth. This software is all under 15 megabytes.

Fax by Modem 1.0

As described on the software’s homepage -

“[Fax by Modem's] featured benefits are:

• Faxes any document type via modem to any fax machine in the world
• Easy setup/implementation
• Uses very little system resources
• Saves/modifies recipient information for future use
• Unlimited recipient entries
• Can be used with standard users
• Excellent alternative in lieu of purchasing an expensive Fax program”

StupidFax

Although this software cannot be used to send faxes, it provides a simple way for users to be able to receive and print them. As described by the StupidFax homepage:

“[StupidFax] works with TAPI Fax modems to automatically print and save incoming fax calls.  Incoming faxes are automatically routed and printed to the windows default printer.  All incoming calls are logged with time, date and status information.  All printed files are logged with time, date and print status information.  Users can reprint historical faxes if needed.  StupidFax was created to help users who just need a simple, reliable program to receive faxes.  You’ll find StupidFax really isn’t so stupid when you need a program to just act as an incoming Fax Machine.“

AdminsParadise VoIP phone and Fax Server

Noted as a free phone and fax solution, AdminsParadise features “Web based faxing, scheduled conferencing, voice-mail, roaming users, and much more.” This software runs Asterisk 1.4.4 All of this can be yours for under 1 megabyte (921 kb)!

faxZERO

Although not classified as software, this free web service lets you send a free fax to any fax machine. It’s entirely web based, and allows you to send up to 2 free faxes per day. It also puts and ad page of your fax and also lets you fax a document of up to 3 pages in size. However, you may remove these limitations and send what’s known as a premium fax, which will cost you 1.99, and gets you priority service, no ad page, and an increased maximum of 15 pages per fax.
