Google has launched Google Ventures to fund startups under various niches like software, hardware, bio-tech, clean technology as well as health care. It is still in very early stage and I don’t publicly there is any company which has been funded by Google ventures but looking at the FAQ of Google Ventures, they are certainly looking very big on this. Google is willing to invest seed fund (normally of few hundred thousand dollars) to tens of million dollars on Good ideas/startups as per their stage.

I think this is going to be Huge. I won’t be surprised if they have already started tens of entries even now (it has just been launched, nothing is on the site too). Infact getting funded by google itself

But this does raise some interesting questions like will the funded startups be a part of google (if google owns the part of company, does this means they become part of google?) or will this be a separate company ? Google is a public company so they certainly want to take every step carefully, but because of the fact that have billions under their disposal, the stock holders won’t mind Google taking higher amount of risks to give much higher returns.

For Google and for start ups, its a win win situation. Google has the money and they can invest on new ideas and technologies and people who are looking to make difference in the world, for startups, they will get much higher valuation and support of google team and exposure.
