If you are looking for a free link from Google, you can get it by creating Google Profiles page at http://www.google.com/profiles and put your url in the profile. Creating a profile don’t take more then 2 minutes anyway.

Till now Google Profiles haven’t catch up much in public as I can see only 100K profiles in Google index, probably one reason being there is nothing in return for the user. For example if you create Facebook profile or linkedin profile you know you are getting something in return, this is no such case here. One thing which Google can do is to make its Orkut users go online with their profiles and data. I don’t use Orkut so have no idea if they have done this or not there.

This is another smart move albeit very late by Google to get users create content for Google and the content will be on Google. Anyone person who is in search marketing knows how big user name searches are, every month there may be hundreds of millions of queries are made for people’s name. And since wikipedia so far has not enter into this field, its good that Google can get the profiles for any name shown at the top of every name based query. It don’t even have to beat linkedin, as Google can show the names in seperate block just like it shows news or videos somewhere in third or forth position.

Anyway coming back to free link, I was told that is dofollow which was hard to believe, I checked few profiles and it turns out to be nofollow.
