Get Rid of Computer Restart Caused by Windows Auto Update
Windows update keeps us updated with newly available patches, security update, application update etc. After installing Windows, this update process is set automatic by default, thus it starts immediate downloading whenever new updates are available.
But, in certain situations, this update always asks for restarting the PC in order to make those updates effective on our machine. Now in some situation, it is really bothering especially when we are doing any important task. Accidentally if we press the restart button, all our unsaved works will be destroyed. To get rid of this situation, you can stop that restart dialog just by some easy commands as follows.
1. Go to start menu and click RUN
2. On the RUN dialog run “cmd” to open the command prompt
3. Now, on the command prompt window, simply write down the command “sc stop wuauserv” and execute it.
That’s all; this command will stop the annoying restart dialog box. After this, you can restart whenever you like to make those updates effective on your PC.
Meanwhile, you can also stop automatic update and do it manually whenever you need. If you’re using Windows XP, just right click on the “My Computer” icon on desktop and select the “Properties”. There after, on the “Properties” Window, go to the tab “Automatic Update”. Here at the bottom, you’ll get the option to deactivate automatic update.
Similarly, you can do the same with Windows Vista as well. Just open Control Panel and click the “Windows Update” icon. Here, on the “Change Setting” you’ll get the option “Never Check for Update” and by selecting this automatic update will be turned off. But, don’t forget to run windows update periodically.
