Sitemaps were a buzz word back in 2005 when I was seeing all kind of tools popping up to create online sitemaps for your sites and though now in 2009 when search engines have become more advanced to crawl very deep to the sites, the importance of sitsmaps have come down to an extent, specially since most of the sites are not that complex anyway (sitemaps are useful for e commerce sites mostly).

But a link based sitemap over an xml sitemap can still be very handy for your blog for the reason that it displays all the link on one page which is very handy for humans as they will be able to see all the posts on one page and secondly, it interlinks all the pages to one another. Now such interlinking may not give you any SEO boost but still it will help in link juice and page rank flow, often considered good for your blog rankings in search engines.

Now wordpress has lot of plugins to create sitemap but since we are looking to build a link sitemap for humans too and not xml sitemap, you can use Dagon Design wordpresss Plugin to create such sitemaps, like the one I am using here.

Dagon Design sitemap offers lot of options to build the sitemap as you need with lot of features. You can see all the features from its home page but I will advice you to install it and see it yourself, it will barely take more then 5 minutes anyway.

Once you install the plugin, enable it and edit its settings. Then create a page names sitemap with following code in it

and the page will start showing all the post urls and page urls as per your settings.

Why Link Sitemaps are better than XMP sitemaps

XML sitemaps are for crawlers and are useless for humans but these link sitemaps can be easily browsed by humans and they also offer SEO link flow from stronger pages to weaker pages.
