hkcmd.exe

hkcmd.exe is a Windows operating system executable file which stands for Hot Key Command and it comes to be installed with Intel multimedia devices therefore its main purpose is to support media. The hkcmd.exe enables the Intel Hotkey command for graphics driver and keyboard.
The hkcmd.exe executable file is not an essential component of the Windows operating system.

You can check the hkcmd.exe in your task manager (you can get the task manager by stroking Alt+Ctrl+Del) and there should be only one instance of this running on your system with only one user name. You can disable the hkcmd.exe executable process and this won’t cause any sort of harm to your system.

Normally the hkcmd.exe executable file is located in the System32 subfolder with in the Windows directory and if it happens to be found any other location with in your system then this smss.exe executable file is most probably a threat to your computer that can be a spyware, malware, virus, worm or a stealing Trojan horse.

Unfortunately, there are some spywares, malwares, viruses, worms and Trojans that are recently using the Windows operating system executable files names for their malicious programs’ names as a sort of camouflage, be careful to note the slight differences between both executable files’ names.

To differentiate between the legitimated Windows operating system files and the viruses disguising under their names, besides checking their locations, check the CPU consumption, if the CPU is totally consumed by these processes then they should be suspected as viruses and a scan should be performed on your system to detect the problem and delete it. This virus would cause the hanging of your system repeatedly and especially when you are online. To delete this threat from your system, it’s better to go to the safe mode and then delete it.

The common compliant about the hkcmd.exe executable file is that it gives a message error at the system start up stating the following ‘hkcmd.exe bad image’ this message might be really annoying to some users and they can get red of it by disabling the hkcmd.exe process from running on their Windows operating system start up. To disable the hkcmd.exe process, use the run command to run the msconfig and under the start up tab, un tick the hkcmd.exe process and then click apply and reboot your system. It’s important to mention that disabling the hkcmd.exe is not recommended unless it is causing errors as it concerned with the hotkeys on your keyboard.
