Hostname is used on internet to give the name to computers or computerised machinces. It is actually a naming system give to some specific areas having hardware and computers on their network. It is a particlular to given to a particlular computer on internet or on network. Any computer on internet can be recognised by its hostname that has already given to it. Most of the networks use this naming system with proper authentication and any machine or copmuter can be used from anywhere from the network. There are some certain setting in order to maintian the connectivity and these setting are know as DNS setting of Local area settings. Without configuring these setting you are not able to attain a successful connection two or more computers or hardware.

Hostnames are categorised into various naming systems and all the naming systems has only one purpose that is to identify any computer oriented machine. When we are dealing with our home network or our office network, you have heard of the term DNS. DNS is a naming system and stands for Domain Name System. If you know the DNS and the authentication any computer, you can use or access that computer from your PC or Laptop. But it is must for both the computers to be connected with the same network. If those computers are not connected through same network of same LAN, there is no way you can connect these two computer os hardware.

There is another naming system called TLD and is stands for Top Level Domain. They are now represented as Full Quality Domain names (FQDN). FQDNs must be ended with at a period but actually most of the owners don’t want to use them. FQDN must not exceed 255 characters and the label must not exceed upto 63 characters. If the characters will exceed, it will fail to establish a proper hostname.

A valid host name has to follow some rules that determines its validity. A hostname only contains a-z, 0-9 and hypher. Special characters like &, _, #,@, % etc., cannot be used in any hostname. Differen kind of hostnames are used to represtn different computer or hardware. Two different computer do no ever have a same hostname.
