Offering widgets like this has become a great way of getting easy backlinks and I know many people offering free tools and services in widget format hoping to get easy backlinks and to get high pagerank. Overall I think google is fine with this as long as you don’t start misusing it by putting your anchor links in the backlinks or starts selling links.
