I am about to publish my may earnings in next post and for that I was compiling all my earnings sources and to my pleasant surprise, there was a huge earning increase in Adsense income. Primarily for the reason that there is 40% increase in traffic as I have worked really hard on the sites and secondly because my CTR (and obviously eCPM too) has gone up by 70% because of some changes I made into my sites (specially on mwolk). My CTR is certainly touching 3.5%+ now (aggregate for all sites) which is very good as compared to my previous CTR which used to be around 1.2% to 2.2%

Here is how I doubled my Adsense earnings -

1. few months back, I had made some posts that Google is showing totally irrelevant ads on the blog and that is the reason why the blog is not getting too many ad clicks, well if you see most of the posts now, the relevancy of google ads are very high. It seems over the period of time, google adsense adjusted itself to start showing better ads. Adsense still shows some irrelevant ads on new posts but overall higher relevancy has certainly helped me in getting more clicks.

2. I think another reason why I my adsense income got doubled in 2 months is because I started using adsense section targeting. I am also very much sure that it has helped in getting more relevant ads. So if you are having a site with all kind of stuff in sidebar and footer, I will highly advice you to use section targeting.

3. Earlier I was using default wordpress search but now I have started using adsense search box which, though don’t make lot of money but still adds little bit in overall earnings, which I am expecting to get even higher as the traffic gets higher.

4. I have made some tweaks and changes in the blog design to make the ads more stand out, earlier I was using inline ads but I made them to appear stand alone. I have also started to use sitelinks in a more visible position to eye. Sitelinks though dont’ get lot of clicks, but they do give higher value per click as advertisers like to use sitelinks and are willing to pay more for it.

5. And the biggest reason of getting high rankings is because of increase in traffic by 20% in the last 2 months. I have added lot of quality content in the site and the result are getting shown. People say 20% growth in traffic is not easy to achieve but I think I can maintain it, since going from 100k uniques per month to 120k uniques is not that difficult as compared to going from 1 million to 1.2 million.

I will advice you to read my adsense optimization tips too.In the end, there is no silver bullet for higher earnings in adsense other then to add more quality content which people are interested in and to keep on experimenting.
