I owns a sony W 130 digital camera and I gotta say, before purchasing it, I had to spend hours trying to find which is the best digital camera for me. Choosing a digicamera is never easy for the simple reason that there are about 30-40 options available in the market from sony, fuji, canon, kodak, nikon etc. So here are few tips on How to choose a Digital Camera.

Optics
The lenses are a very important part. If they are poor quality your photos will just look awful. The first hint is the manufacturer. Companies’ names like Leica, Canon and Nikon speak for themselves.

The sensor
The bigger the better – and I am talking about its physical size, not the resolution. Look for reviews and search for the lines for different ISO values – again, the bigger the better.

Image stabilization
I am talking about mechanical stabilization like mobile lenses or sensor, not those marketing lies like digital stabilization which only decrease the picture quality by increasing the sensor’s sensibility (ISO value)

Battery
If it uses usual AA batteries it will save you when there is no electrical plug around you. You can also buy some rechargeable batteries so you won’t spend money each time on regular ones.
If it has its own rechargeable battery you may have to consider buying another one for back-up, especially if you make lots of photos.

Menu
You will want an easy and clear structured menu so you can find the settings you wish fast.

Casing
You don’t want to break into pieces the first time it hits the floor so a good sturdy case is a must-have.

Manual settings
If you are starting to explore the photography beyond vacation photos you will soon want manual control of the aperture, exposure time, white balance and other more settings that allows you to be creative and achieve the result you have in mind.

Warranty

If you buy it online make sure it will be easy to repair in care something happens.

These are some basic guide lines for anyone to look for but for now no one has developed the perfect digital camera. The best thing you can do is read online reviews and especially forums, this can get you a pretty good idea about a camera.
