How to convert tape into CD

If you are having some old digital tape (remember them?) which has some memorable video and if you are looking to convert that video tape in CD or DVD this post is for you.

Yes, there can be endless numbers of cassette tapes lying around your house from which you make no use at all. It may be that nobody uses cassette players these days or that your car only has a CD player. But since the tapes were ones near and dear to you, you wouldn’t want to throw them away either.

How to convert tapes into CD

What do you need for the conversion?
Hardware
• A cassette player
• A computer with a soundcard and a CD writer
• Cables for connecting the cassette player and the soundcard.

Software
• An audio recording software
• A audio enhancement software
• CD burning software

Note: Most of the audio enhancement software such as Audacity and Cool Edit Pro include recording ability as well.
1. Connect the ‘line-out’ of the cassette player to the ‘line-in’ of the soundcard using the connecting cables.
2. Go to ‘Control Panel’ of your computer and select the soundcard as the preferred recording device in ‘Sounds’.
3. Go to the sound mixer (double click on sound icon in the system tray) and un-mute ‘line-in’.
4. Open the audio recording software.
5. Make sure all required settings are set for high quality recording in the audio recording software. These settings may vary depending on the software used.
6. Play the cassette player and monitor what you hear from the computer speakers. Adjust the recording software settings until you hear quality music. Once done, rewind the cassette tape.
7. Start recording on the recording software and start playing back the cassette.
8. Once the entire cassette is recorded by the recording software, stop cassette playback.
9. Now, stop recording and save the recorded material as a Wave (.wav) file. Wave is the default Windows audio format.
10. Open the audio enhancement software and load the saved Wave file. The entire cassette is included in the Wave file and you may want to separate each song in to tracks. This can be done using the audio enhancement software.
11. Once the individual tracks are created, use the software’s effects (such as noise reduction) to enhance the quality further.
12. Once the job with audio enhancement software is completed, launch the CD burning software.
13. Burn all the Wave files to the CD and make sure you burn it as an Audio CD.
14. Once the burning process is completed, you are ready to listen to your favorite music using a CD player.
