How to Cool your Laptop
Before thinking about using additional devices for cooling let’s see what you can do with what you already have in your laptop. The key in keeping your laptop cool is the way you use it. I know is called a LAPtop but the less covered its backside is the best the cooling system will work. I guess you noticed how your legs worm up when you keep the laptop on them. This is because all the components lose the heat that way and instead of being absorbed by the air around is absorbed by your legs. While keeping it in your lap will cause a slight overheat, using it in bed and keeping it over a blanket is its death sentence. Compared to a PC, the laptop has only a small opening through which blows out the hot air. If this area is blocked almost certain your laptop will shut down at some point due to overheating. Also, doing this over and over again can cause serious damage to your system.
Another important issue is keeping your CPU cooler clean. Because of the dusty environment we all leave in the cooler gets clogged up and can’t do what it is designed to. If you consider that you don’t have the skills to open and clean it yourself take the laptop to the nearest IT service, it is a quick and easy operation done in minutes with a screwdriver and a brush. I have to warn you that if your laptop is in the warranty period you will lose it. Take care! In time, your cooler will wear out, then the only thing you can do is change it.
If the tricks above don’t do the job then you should consider buying a laptop stand. One of them can be just “risers” so there is more space beneath your laptop for it to cool down but some have fans integrated in the area where the battery and cooler is. The fans are designed to work with 12V, the standard laptop electric current, so you just have to plug the stand in a free usb.
