How to create torrent files?
It was just a dream to share large files over the Internet sometime ago. By then, it was almost impossible and virtually no one attempted as the files were too big and the transfer rates were too low. But the introduction of torrents changed the entire picture of Internet file sharing.

Creating a torrent file is the beginning of the torrent file sharing process. Let’s see how this is done in a few easy steps.

1. Choose the file you want to share with the Internet users. Most of the times, these files would be video, music, or software. Sharing copyrighted material may cause you penalties if convicted. Therefore, you may want to consider legalities of online file sharing before starting to create torrent files.
If there are multiple files in the folder you want to share, you can either compress them using a popular zip program or share them as it is. You need to share a directory through the torrent software to place the file that is planned for upload.

2. Open the torrent client such as uTorrent. Many of the torrent software have the ability to upload within the software. This allow other users to download the software from your computer, through torrent software.

3. When the torrent file is uploaded, it is divided in to tiny pieces. This makes the uploading / downloading much efficient and this is the main feature of torrent file sharing. The torrent software can specify the piece size. The bigger the piece size, the less efficient the upload / download is. Usually 512kB is used as the common piece size and it can be low as 256kB as well. You can even specify ‘Auto’ for this setting and then the torrent software will decide the piece size depending on the available network bandwidth.

4. Find ‘Create Torrent’ option in your torrent software for creating the .torrent file. Make sure that you create the .torrent file in the same directory as the shared file. Your torrent file will be submitted to the trackers.
Now you can send the torrent file to your friends and start sharing the file over the Internet as freely as you wish.
