How to find Ideas and Content for your Blog

One of the major problem people face while blogging daily is that they start running out of ideas and content like on what topics should I write ? This problem occurs when we cover all the broad topics which we like very fast in first couple of months of blogging, instead of breaking the info into small posts and then starts wondering from where should I get more content and ideas ?

So here is a post on the places from where you can get more content and ideas for your blog -

1. use Google News – This has to be your starting point to search for ideas and fresh content, open Google news and start searching for news. Also use the one day old and two old news option too. You can also create Google feed alerts on topics of your choice to get alerts in your email box or as feeds.

2. Check Social Bookmarking websites – You can find great bookmarks on delicious about almost everything and I often use when I am out of content and ideas. Just start digging delicious, and keep on hopping from one site to another, one tag to another and keep on bookmarking interesting pages to your own delicious account and later on you can write on that.

3. Watch Online Trends – use Google Trends and Yahoo Buzz to find the latest trends and buzz on the web. These are very handy tool to find what is hot currently on the web.

4. Top Newspaper websites – There are loads of online newspaper websites so I won’t give the list of all, just chose what you like most as most of them repeats same stories. I like to read CNN, NewYorkTimes and Boston Globe but its your choice, you can follow some other newspapers and TV stations. You can also subscribe to CNN twitter feeds (lot of other networks and newspapers are also on twitter, search it)

5. Viral Content on Digg or RedditDigg and Reddit has lot of viral content and you may not want to cover all the front page stories (that won’t be very smart) but you can look into the site to find good stories. I have seen lot of digg stories which got 6 or 7 diggs and were really good.

6. Latest Videos on Youtube, Veoh, Dailymotion – Look at the today’s highest rising and most viewed videos of Youtube, Veoh and Dailymotion, the chances are, you may be covering tomorrow’s internet sensation, today.

7. Search on Twittertwitter search is also a good source of news to find what people are talking, normally people talk about current affairs (well few do talk about their dog and cats too on twitter) and you can get some content ideas from there.

8. Check Niche bookmarking websites – there are lot of niche bookmarking sites like dzone.com for tech links where you can get less noise as compared to bigger and general bookmarking sites. I can probably take each and every link from dzone and write a blog post on it. Find such niche bookmarking sites for you too. Also look for niche forums too, you can also get good ideas from forums based on previous questions and discussion and answers given by users.

9. Use Stumbeupon to find Great Content ideas – use Stumbleupon toolbar to find interesting content voted by others. It has different settings which you can use to find best content from various sites and blogger too.

10. Use technorati to Find hot fresh content from blogsTechnorati is a blog feed aggregator and a very good place to search what the big blogs are talking about since most of them submit there feeds

11. Use Google Blog SearchGoogle Blog Search is an excellent tool to find what bloggers are talking about. Just open it and start typing your words and it will start showing related blogs.

12. Check Mahalo for latest newsMahalo often covers latest news which appeals to people like I can see they have put news about Mothers Day and gift on Mothers day because today is mothers day. So you can always look at it to find better and more ideas.

13. Use User generated content sites - Search Squidoo, hubpages, Google Knol pages to get random topics on what people are writing. Unfortunately ezinearticle and such sites are now filled with marketing and SEO spam but still you can find good topics to write about there.

14. Search Answers like website – Search Yahoo answers, wikianswers and yedda to find questions which you can answer better (most of the answers are not answered well anyway on such sites) and post them into your blog. You can also create a page like this putting all information at one place.

15. Search wordpress.com and tagswordpress is a great place to find great content and ideas. Just search the wordpress.com and you can see loads of blog posts on your keywords. I have seen wordpress blogs having the highest quality content as they are not writing to make money from adsense unlike other sites.

16. Subscribe, Subscribe, Subscribe as many feeds as you can – If you are still living in a cave and hasn’t heard of desktop readers or online feed readers (I uses Google reader) start using it and start subscribing to as many feeds as you can. Most of the bloggers who write daily content rewrite content from other blogs giving it new spin as most of the content is already written. Infact when I was making this list of Content and ideas for blogs, I saw many such lists already exist but since I am offering my own latest fresh list and with updated and new content, there is nothing wrong in it.

I am subscribe to 200 feeds and ever weekend reads most of the content and puts down in a notepad about the posts and topics which interests me so I can write about them in coming days, you too can do the same.

So this summarizes my list of the places from where you can get ideas and content for your blog posts, if you know some more mention it in comments, if I come across few more, I will add in the list.
