last week I had covered the basics of eCPM like what is eCPM, now after understanding it, here are few ways and tips to increase your eCPM but before that, do know that eCPM is just a metric of gauging sites revenue and the actual parameters of calculating successful and money making sits are way too complex.

You can increase your eCPM by -

1. Since eCPM is calculated with earnings divided by impressions, you need to either increase your earnings per impression or reduce the number of impressions. One way of reducing the number of impressions is to not put google adsense on low quality pages where people are not clicking on any ads. A good example will be pages which have very little content or those which are showing very little relevant information.

2. Another way to increase eCPM is to have high revenue, now you get high revenue by either getting more clicks or high paying ads. So you may like to show ads above the fold (like I am doing on this blog), find the regions where

3. Get More Relevant Adsense Ads - Google Adsense often shows unrelated ads due to some words triggering wrong ads, Get more relevant content by using google section targeting as more relevant ads means more clicks.

4. Use less ads - Yes its true, by using less google adsense ads, you often get higher earnings. The logic is, the lesser the ads, the more high paying ads will be shown.

5. Remove low paying Adsense advertisers - there is a list of huge adsense advertisers who pay very less or there are ads are not very targeted getting less clicks, you can remove such advertisers through Google competitive Ad Filter

6. Do trial and testing - try to test few different ad formats to see which one is working, try to use different colors, ads with borders or no borders etc. You can use php to rotate different type of ad formats to do Multivariate Testing

7. Well some people say that if you remove your ads for some time or remove your publisher ID for some time (say 3-4 days) and again put the ads or published id, your eCPM will increase! I have no idea what logic goes behind it, probably the fact that if your account has got smart priced, such actions resets smart pricing. You can read this article to avoid smart pricing.

These are some of the methods to increase your eCPM, they work for few and don’t for few. As I had said, you want to make sure that your eCPM is atleast 5% (unless you are having very low quality site like image sites). Having poor eCPM can be really frustrating thing, specially when after lot of attempts, its refuses to go up but still you need to keep trying and tessting.
