In case you are living under a rock, most likely you already know how to open torrent files. Opening a torrent file simply means downloading the associated torrent share. In this article, we use uTorrent as the torrent client software for opening the torrent file. In addition to uTorrent, there are a few dozens of torrent clients available for the same purpose.

1. Download uTorrent from ‘http://www.utorrent.com/’. uTorrent is the most popular torrent client at the moment which offers many advantages over the rest of the competition.

2. Once installed, open uTorrent and click ‘File’ from the menu bar.

3. Click ‘Add Torrent…’

4. Now, browse your hard drive for the torrent file (with the extension .torrent) and open it.

5. You can now select the destination directory and the file name to be ‘saved as’.

6. Select only the required files from the list placed at the bottom of the windows and click ‘OK’.

7. Then the torrent share will start downloading to your hard drive. Depending on the available seeds, the download rate and the ‘estimated time remaining’ will vary. uTorrent will show you many additional information related to the download such as bandwidth consumption, peers, logger, etc.

8. Once downloading is complete, you can right click on the file and select ‘Open Containing Folder’.

9. If you see many zip files, open just one zip file and extract it to any location in the hard drive. This will extract the entire file that is zipped.

Now you have the torrent shared file downloaded to the hard drive. If you have enough bandwidth, you can keep the downloaded files seeding to other torrent users.
