How to use Recovery Partition

In the previous post, I had talked about Vista Recovery Partition in Laptops, and in this post,we will learn how to use Recovery partition to bring the system back into factory settings without CD of Windows Vista.

Since I have Dell laptop, I can only vouch for DELL laptops but I am sure this also works on HP and other laptops as Recovery Partition feature is fairly standard one used by all vendors.

So if you are not able to boot windows vista or XP, and feels the time has come to fully reinstall the OS again then just click F9 as soon as the PC restarts and C:\ will automatically get reformatted and Vista/XP will again get loaded, so basically the system will get into same condition as you had got it. Pretty neat I would say!

That is why, I will highly advice you to not delete Recovery partition as it is very useful

so, my vista crashed. i cannot boot computer. i have an SATA external for the dell harddrive. i can see the two partitions (recovery and OS). My question is, using another computer with the USB external to view my laptop harddrive, can i use the format/restore utility from my old laptop hd without affecting the main computer i am using to view that harddrive (have my old corrupt DELL VISTA hd in an external box connected to an HP laptop. I want to restore my dell harddrive from the HP computer. can i? is that crzy?

I tired the F9 thing and it gave me two options only; to boot as usual from C drive, or to insert recovery CD.

I don’t have a recovery CD, I am on the other side of the world righ tnow and that was what I had in mind while creating the HP_RECOVERY partition.

How do I access the sneaky little drive?
