How to use Torrents
This is a beginners article for people who don’t know how to use torrents or wondering where to begin with.
What are torrents ?
File sharing through the Internet has been there from the beginning of the Internet. There are various methods used for this purpose such as FTP, file servers, etc. In those approaches, all the files that need to be downloaded by someone else needed to be stored in one or several known servers. When it comes to millions of downloads a day, central storing was almost impossible.
With the torrents, peer-to-peer file sharing was introduced. In this method, files can be in anyone’s PC but could be downloaded through torrent software. Let’s see how to use torrents to download your favorite movie.
Torrent search engines
First of all you need to go to a torrent search engine. You can simply Google and find one. Then, you need to search for the download that you are looking for (the movie). The torrent search engine then lists out the torrent websites that contain the download that you are looking for.
Once you click on one of the links, (which leads to a torrent website) you will be directed to the torrent download page. In this page, you will find user comments about the download and you should read them before downloading. In case if the download is infected with viruses or malware, most probably it will be indicated in the user comments.
If you are satisfied with the user comments and the download content, then you need to download the torrent file to your hard drive.
Torrent client software
To start downloading your movie, you need to install torrent client software. Search the web for torrent clients and you will find plenty (e.g. uTorrent). Get the one you really like and install it. Once installed, you can open the torrent file that you downloaded from the website. At this point, the download will start and the torrent client software will show you the downloading speed and the estimated time remaining for your movie to download.
