Increase Internet Speed in Vista

Here are few tips and tricks to increase the internet speed in windows Vista. I am already on very high speed broadband so I haven’t noticed much difference but if you are on low speed internet connection, this should help you alot.

4 Tips to Increase Internet Speed in Vista

1. TCP Auto-tuning

  • Open command prompt
  • Type cd\ to move into the root
  • Now type following command and press enter after each line
  • netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global chimney=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled

  • Now just reboot you PC to effect these changes on your system
  • Note: You can also revert back past settings with following commands (incase of any problem)
  • netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=enabled
netsh interface tcp set global chimney=enabled
netsh interface tcp set global rss=enabled

2. Use Web Accelerator

Web Accelerators are mainly web proxies with server side compression that creates a tunneling between our system and the web server to increase and optimize the surfing speed. You can find a list of free Web Accelerator here.

3. TCP/IP and UAC Auto Patch

You can install TCP/IP and UAC Auto Patch for Vista. Actually Microsoft has limited the half-open connection attempts per second to keep your system away from different malware. But, after installing TCP/IP and UAC auto patch you will get around 70000 half open connections which will definitely increase the internet access speed. It can be downloaded here.

4. Use Speed Boosters

Speed boosters generally increase the internet speed by freeing up RAM on a regular interval, controlling and optimizing PING intervals, increasing performance of hardware etc. SC Net Speed Booster is such a freeware application you can use.
