I have moved to Windows Vista long time back still since I have used windows XP for 6 years and I am so addicted to it, I have still kept it on my desktop and often uses it every now and then. Now this tweak is really old but still can be useful for many of you guys, and this can increase your Internet speed in windows XP by some 20%.

You will be surprised to know that your computer’s “Group Policy” by default set to give you 20% lesser bandwidth usage on any internet connection. You can always change that to increase the speed of your internet without having to buy any additional software. This can be done by following these steps:

• Click “START” and then click “RUN”.
• Type “gpedit.msc” in the text box and press ok.
• Your group policy window will appear. From the panel on the left side of the window do the following

• Expand “Computer Configuration”
• Expand “Administrative Templates”
• Expand “Network”.
• Select “QoS Packet Scheduler

• In the right panel of the window you will find “Limit Reservable Bandwidth”, with its status “Not Configured”. Click on it.
• This will open the “Limit Reservable Bandwidth Properties” window.

• This will be “Not Configured” by default setting. So just click on “Enabled” tab which will activate the “Bandwidth Limit [%]” which will show it to be set at 20% value.
• Reduce this value to “0″ [Zero] and click on the “Apply” and “OK” buttons respectively.
• This will remove the limit from bandwidth usage by all programs and will increase the internet or any other network speed on your PC.

Try this and let me know how you find this experience in using your internet. If you wish to revert back, simply click on “Not Configured” tab and your PC will go back to its default settings of 20% Reservable Bandwidth Limit.

You can apply these settings in computers running Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 family in the same way as described above.
