Dialup modems (remember the old 56k and 128 kbps once!) are a history now but are still in use at various parts of the world so here how to install modem (dialup Internal and External Modems) -

• If you are using internal modem, then first of all you need to place the modem in any PCI slot available on your motherboard. Just plugin like any other PCI devices and make sure to attach the screws.

• Similarly, if you are using external modem, just attach the cable on serial port available on your system.
• Now, for both internal and external modem installation process is quite similar. Turn on your system after plug-ing your modem. For external modem, make sure that the adapter is connected and it’s on.
• Now after starting your system, it will prompt a message “New Hardware Found” at your taskbar area. You may ignore it.
• Now insert the installation CD supplied with the modem pack.
• If the CD has stand alone installation, then the work will be easy for you. Just install it simply and restart your system.
• But, if the installation CD does not comes with direct installation then go to Control Panel and open “Phone and Modem Options”.
• If you are running this “Phone and Modem Options” for first time, it will ask for your area and city code. Don’t worry you can enter simply 111 here.
• Now you will get the “Phone and Modem Options” window. Here click on the modem tab from the top.

• Here you will get an “Add” button as follows. Click this button and a new wizard will start.
• By clicking next on this wizard, it will start to detect your modem. No matter if it’s an internal or external modem.
• Next, after your system detects the modem, select the driver folder of the CD and click next.
• Now, it will show the available modem. Just select and click install. During this, you can get a message from Windows for missing Digital Signature. Don’t worry just install it and restart your system.
• After restarting plug your telephone line and make a new connection from the Network Connection.
